The advantage to push rods are cheaper production costs and less moving parts to go bad.ĭefinitely less moving parts in a pushrod engine, with one cam controlling all the intake and exhaust valves. I think push rods are best for engines larger than 4.0 liters, but for anything smaller OHC is truly best for any form of transport. ![]() The ford is SOHC and 3 valves, the Cadi is push rod and 2 valve, and yet when it comes to numbers ford = 400hp/400lb-ft - chevy = 425hp/415lb-ft. Before you say it's because the chevy is bigger, keep in mind that the blower is a 2.0 liter blower.Īnother example is the Cadi 6.2 vs the new ford 6.2 (coming out in the raptor). They both have over 500 hp and chevy does it with 16 less valves and no blower. As to how high they can rev a fully built nascar can run 9,500 for 500 miles and certain race engines have hit 10,000.įor a perfect example of why pushrods are good, look at the corvette 6.0 vs. Actually, 4 valve is possible with push rods, it just doesn't add much power. ![]()
